WEAVING GALLERY. BANDS
Opening hours
(Bažnyčių St 4 – next to the Art Yard)
In the weaving gallery, you will be welcomed by the master of traditional crafts Ramunė Našlėnienė and folk artist, weaver Loreta Bagočienė. They present the exposition of the weaving gallery and loom weaving, demonstrate the heddle weaving of bands of Lithuania Minor. It is important that you can not only see the weaving process, but also try it yourself. In the gallery, you will also see the craft of weaving and fabric finishing (tassel tying), and will be able to get advice on hand weaving.
This time the gallery presents a variety of Lithuanian bands. The main focus is on the bands of Western Lithuania, but visitors have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with bands from all over Lithuania created using various old technologies (braiding, tablet weaving, weaving). Interestingly, you will find the band as an independent aspect of traditional culture in various contexts: as a piece of clothing, as a Lithuanian souvenir or as a sign of respect. The exhibition showcases authentic bands from different periods and their creative variations.
It is never too late to learn the secrets of weaving!
We look forward to seeing you.
